Welcome to The Gambia
Experience The Gambia like a Local
Georgetown 'Janjabureh'
TOUR DURATION : 2 DAYS
This is an overnight tour that takes you into the interior of the country to see the natural landscape and experience the typical local life of the native Gambians.
DAY 1:
We shall depart our respective hotels at 6-7am in the morning, either crossing with the ferry at Banjul or driving through the trans Gambia highway. Either way connects us to the north bank of The Gambia, with various interesting stops on the way before getting to the biggest town in the north bank of The Gambia (Farrafenni), which is also a border town between Senegal and The Gambia. A horse/donkey ride in the heart of the market for 30 minutes. We shall drive to Kaur for a lunch stop before proceeding to the Wassu stones circles (this use to be a burial ground for kings, queens, warriors and close relatives of the sovereigns of ancient Gambia). A museum is also on site that will educate you on Gambian history, especially regarding the mysteries behind the stone’s circles. The next stop takes us to Kuntaur, on a boat ride for 2 hours to spot different species of birds, monkeys, chimpanzees, hippos and crocodiles. A night stop at the Kuntaur lodge.
DAY 2:
Depart at 8am after breakfast to colonial Georgetown to see a warehouse (slave market), underground tunnel, freedom tree, governor’s residence, the first school built in The Gambia and drive through the southern bank to Absca Creek Lodge for a lunch stop. A family visit at a local village before finally driving back to the hotel between 5-6pm.
